Kade found Cord downstairs on his laptop. His brother was sitting on the couch, frowning at the screen as he did something with the security systems. Kade could see several different views from around the two houses and the surrounding woods. It was obvious Cord was double-checking his surveillance work.

“What’s the update?” Kade asked.

“Jordon’s on the phone with Anthony now. I told him what Lauren said about the Alliance, and he hung up with Desmon and called Anthony right away,” Cord explained without looking away from his laptop. “Cage is helping the women load up the RV, but he’s staying here once they leave. Vicky is going to drive everyone to the pack house. Desmon and Jazz are sending more men to us. They are going to secure the pack house first and make sure everyone is safe. Then they’ll head over here with Miles, and we’ll figure out what to do next.”

“It has to be Goodwin,” Kade warned. “You heard how Lauren described that bastard. I don’t know what’s going on with the land thing, but it was the Goodwin alpha who attacked her, I’m sure of it.”

“I agree.” Cord’s voice was gravelly, betraying the wolf just under the surface of his cool exterior. “We’ll be waiting. I guess we didn’t kick their asses hard enough last time.”

“This time, I’m done, and I don’t care if the Alliance is in their pocket,” Kade growled as he fought to hide how deeply affected he was by the attack on Lauren. “They hurt her—badly. If those two women hadn’t walked into her office, they would’ve killed her.”

“She’s human.” Cord looked furious too. “She never should have been pulled into this shit. Those Goodwins go way too far. They’re a danger to shifters everywhere.”

“Call Vicky and tell them that someone needs to drive Lauren’s car out of here. If Goodwin sees her car, he’ll know she was able to warn us.”

“I’m sure he assumes she came here. That Goodwin motherfucker is not stupid.”

“She was bleeding badly. He might think she didn’t survive.”

Cord looked up from his screen and studied Kade. “And what about her? Do we leave her here or send her with the women to the pack house? She’d probably be safer there, Kade.”

“She’s in a lot of pain, and she’s lost too much blood. I didn’t want to scare her, but you saw. She’s as white as paper. We’ll leave her in my bed. No one is going to get to her up there.”

Cord seemed skeptical. “Do you think it’s possible you’re not fully rational right now where she’s concerned?”

“No, I think it’s logical not to move her,” Kade argued. “She should stay in my room. She just found out werewolves exist, and you want to put her in a pack house full of them. No way.”

“You do realize she’s in a house full of shifters right now, don’t you?” Cord reminded him.

“Cat shifters,” Kade said under his breath.

“And what am I?” Cord asked him with an arch of his eyebrow.
